I was born close to the sea. I have always lived with my feet dirty with sand, or immersed in water, or wet by waves, or scratched by rocks. I am the son of a fisherman, and from my father I inherited a boat. I set sail at sunset and spend the night in the becalmed, pulling up an often empty net. I look at the coast, the lights that mark its outline. I think of the rooms from which they spread, think of the people who live in them, the hugs between the sheets, the slow breathing of sleeping wives, and I am lonely.
