“You shouldn't do that,” Nabob said in a neutral tone.

Lullu replied without turning around, “And why shouldn't I?”

“It's dangerous. We are not alone in this clearing and this is the only waterhole.”

“Exactly. And what would you like to do? Wait for it to dry out?”

“Check, check first for crocodiles. They are hungry and may be lurking at the edge of the puddle.”

Lullu shook his big ears, turned and pointed to the other elephants.

“The herd is thirsty, Nabob.”

“It will wait.”

“No,” and he stuck his trunk into the water. “I'll take the risk first. You are too old and bewildered a herd leader.”
